Los Angeles Chargers star quarterback Philip Rivers is heading into his 15th season in the NFL eyeing the chance to earn his first Super Bowl of his career. The quest will begin going through training camp, which is a part of the process that he has have voiced much enjoyment doing in the past.

It is a major part of what makes Rivers tick as a quarterback and helped become one of the league's most accomplished players at his position. According to Eric D. Williams of ESPN, the 36-year-old voiced that he is hoping to focus on the minute details to help get the Chargers off to a strong start offensive to begin the 2018 campaign.

“Early on, the first five or six weeks of the season, there were too many missed plays,” Rivers said. “We weren’t playing terrible. We were 0-4, but it was just, ‘Gosh that was a huge first down. I just missed the throw.’ Or, ‘This was a huge opportunity with a touchdown, but we missed it.’

“We talked about not scoring enough points those first few games — we were just not scoring enough points. And so I think it’s gotten to the point now, and you hope it’s this way, it’s more now about the approach and the little fine details of how to convert another third down, not kick a field goal in a key situation [and] continue to take care of the ball.”

Last season, Los Angeles had their fair share of offensive woes through the first month that greatly contributed to them dropping their first four contests that put them in a major hole that they were unable to climb out of to make the playoffs. The Chargers were one of the hottest teams in the league in the second half that found a tremendous amount of success in the passing game.

Rivers is hoping to replicate that type of effectiveness in helping the team to get off on the right track toward making a strong push for the playoffs. There is a strong desire from him to work through the minor details to avoid falling into that same offensive funk that put the Chargers behind the eight ball for much of the 2017 campaign.

Los Angeles has added more pieces to the puzzle this offseason by strengthening their offensive line that should provide more much-needed protection for Rivers to help get the team off to a better start. For the time being, the Pro Bowler is already fully ingrained in the process of getting the Chargers off to a fast start in 2018.
