After losing the Super Bowl LIII, the Los Angeles Rams were a team that many believed would be a lock to make the playoffs with a real chance to make it back to the Super Bowl. Fast forward to now, the Rams are sitting with a 5-4 record and look like they might miss out on the playoffs altogether.

Let's breakdown four reasons the Rams season will be over once the regular season is over.

4. Todd Gurley

The way the Rams are deciding to use Todd Gurley is head-scratching. Since Gurley dealt with the knee injury during the 2018 playoffs, the team has tried to keep him fresh, but they have also not used him in big situations. During their loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers, the team failed to give Gurley any carries in the 4th quarter.

The decision to go away from Gurley in big moments will keep the Rams from enough winning games and will keep them out of the playoffs.

3. The Jalen Ramsey decision

There is no doubt that Jalen Ramsey makes the Rams better long-term. However, they are missing the impact that Marcus Peters and Aqib Talib previously brought to their team. They traded both players away in order to create cap space to sign Ramsey to a long-term deal.

The rest of the secondary besides Ramsey is questionable, and he can't guard everyone. Teams will continue to move the ball against this defense, and the offense won't be able to keep up.

2. Sean McVay

Sean McVay is a bright offensive mind and has some incredible photographic memory, but there is one place he hasn't proven to be effective. He has genuinely struggled with making adjustments. Jared Goff is struggling and McVay hasn't been able to push the right buttons to get him back on the right track.

This is a team that only scored 24 points against the Cincinnati Bengals a couple of weeks ago and only 17 points against the Steelers.

After the team misses out on the season, a lot of the eyes are going to be on McVay and there will be no shortage of focus to find where he failed. There is going to be a lot of pressure on McVay next year or there might be some calls from people for his firing.

1. Schedule

Even if everything else goes right and the team actually turns around their issues, they are going to have a hard time winning enough games to make the playoffs. The Minnesota Vikings sit with a 7-3 record and currently have the last wild card spot. The Rams close out their season playing against the Chicago Bears, Baltimore Ravens, the Arizona Cardinals twice, Seattle Seahawks, Dallas Cowboys, and the San Francisco 49ers.

To make the playoffs they probably need to go 5-2 or 4-3 at worse, and with that schedule, it's going to difficult to accomplish.

Sorry Rams fans, the expectations were so high for this season but there are going to have to be some changes made this offseason.
