The Los Angeles Rams burst onto the scene last year with new head coach Sean McVay and second-year quarterback Jared Goff being a big part of the team taking a step forward. Going into the playoffs there were many who thought the Rams could make it all the way to the Super Bowl, but a shocking loss to the Atlanta Falcons in the NFC Wild Card game ended their season.
That loss has put a sour taste in the team's mouth, and it has led to coach McVay pushing the team harder this offseason to make sure that it doesn't happen again.
First of all, he's super smart,” quarterback Jared Goff told NFL Network analyst Willie McGinest on Wednesday's edition of NFL Total Access. “He knows what he's doing. At the same time, though, I think he's got absolutely no ego and is just trying to help us win.
“Obviously he's done a tremendous job so far, and so far this offseason you've seen his want to push it even further. And we're right there with him. It's an exciting time.”
After struggling his first year under Jeff Fisher, Goff burst onto the scene under McVay. The No. 1 pick in the 2016 draft had 3,804 passing yards for 28 touchdowns and just seven interceptions. The two look like a combination that is going to be a force in the NFC West for years to come.
The Rams roster is better than it was last year, and the expectations are higher for this team so McVay knows that they can't be complacent with the results of last year. The rest of the NFC got better this offseason, and the Rams need to step up their game.
