It's a bizarre thing to see someone who's been named a team captain over the previous three seasons getting snubbed for the same title. Especially when that player has led the league in both rushing touchdowns and total touchdowns over the last two years. However, that's where running back Todd Gurley finds himself going into the 2019 season.

The 2017 Offensive Player of the Year will not be a team captain for the first time since his rookie year. It's something that head coach Sean McVay had to go into detail about.

“We’ve got a bunch of great leaders. He definitely got recognized by his peers as somebody that was right up there with those guys,” McVay said per Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk. “We let the players select that and those were the six that they ended up voting on, but Todd’s been a great leader.

“The fact that you may or may not be represented as a captain officially, we’ve got guys that we expect them to carry themselves accordingly. Todd is certainly somebody that influences and affects a locker room in a positive way and I know he’s looked at as a leader on this team.”

Some believe that the issue with him not being a team captain for this season is because of his knee problems. They're something that has caused him to slow down and not perform at the same rate or ability as to where he should be this season in comparison to previous years. Whether that's the case or not, it's still a glaring piece to not only Todd Gurley but also the Rams as well.
