Much was made of Los Angeles Rams running back Todd Gurley getting only five carries during the Rams' Week 4 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, so much so that Gurley was asked about his lack of touches afterward.
On Thursday night, Los Angeles tried to get Gurley more involved, giving him 15 carries on which he totaled 51 yards and a couple of touchdowns, but it wasn't enough in what ended up being a 30-29 loss against the Seattle Seahawks.
After the game, Rams head coach Sean McVay spoke highly of Gurley's performance:
“We wanted to get him going,” said McVay, according to Lindsey Thiry of ESPN.com. “He got some tough, hard-earned yards against a good defensive front. … That opened up some things in the passing game.”
Rams quarterback Jared Goff thought Gurley's involvement had a strong effect on the offense:
“It was great. It affected us positively,” said Goff. “He did a great job. Ran the ball well.”
Los Angeles can boast about Gurley as much as it wants, but it doesn't change the fact that this was just another lackluster performance in what has been a season full of them for the halfback.
While Gurley punched in a pair of scores, he only averaged 3.4 yards per carry, and since rushing for an impressive 97 yards on 14 attempts in the Rams' season opener, Gurley has failed to tally four yards per carry in any of LA's last four games.
The Rams fell to 3-2 with the loss and will head back home to take on the San Francisco 49ers next Sunday.
