There has been a ton of debate the last few weeks about the preseason and Los Angeles Rams running back Todd Gurley, who won't be playing until the regular season opened up about the pros and cons of the preseason.
Gurley is still trying to manage a knee injury that affected him last year and the team hasn't wanted to take any chances by playing him in the preseason.
Gurley thinks that with the changes to the roster of only one cutdown day from 90 guys, it has helped because it means the starters aren't being forced to play. Some teams still like to play starters, but teams don't have to feel like they need to now.
“It’s good. There’s pros and cons,” Gurley said in his press conference Monday via The Rams Wire. “I honestly like it especially that we changed the rule from the 53(-man roster) and just keeping everybody and making that roster cuts after the final preseason game. It kind of felt like guys had to play back in the day because of numbers. I feel like it gives the younger guys a lot more opportunities to make plays, go out there.”
Gurley said a lot of his friends around the NFL are a little jealous of the practice schedule that he has had this season. He has taken a lot of rest days with the team trying to keep him as fresh as possible for the regular season.
“I call them all the time and tell them I had an off-day and they’re like, ‘Man, we just practiced for three hours.’ I got a lot of friends that play in the preseason, so I’ll check up on them and see how they’re doing, how their preseason goes. They definitely wish they weren’t playing, for sure,” Gurley said.
