The NFL world was shocked once again on Wednesday, as the Miami Dolphins traded for six-time Pro Bowl wide receiver Tyreek Hill. It was one of the biggest trade packages for a wide receiver in NFL history. The Dolphins sent back five draft picks including a first-round, second-round and fourth-round pick in this year's NFL Draft. They also gave up a fourth-rounder and a sixth rounder in 2023. But there is no debating that the Dolphins are better today after making this deal.

3 Bold Predictions for Tyreek Hill and Dolphins after Chiefs Trade

3. DOLPHINS MOVE UP IN AFC EAST

The Miami Dolphins have made a very clear decision this offseason. They are leaning on offense instead of defense. That began when they fired former head coach Brian Flores. Flores was a defensive coach and led the Dolphins field one of the better units in football last year. They let him go and signed former San Francisco 49ers offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel as the new head coach.

It then transferred to player personnel. Miami signed a couple new running backs, both of whom are very good when healthy in Chase Edmonds and Raheem Mostert.

On Tuesday, the Dolphins shored their offensive line up a bit, signing Pro Bowl offensive lineman Terron Armstead. But this is the blockbuster move that Dolphins have been crying for.

The New England Patriots, who finished a game ahead of the Dolphins in 2021, are yet to make any big free agent splashes. Yeah, they brought Malcolm Butler out of retirement. But they lost some key pieces on both sides of the ball and did not do much to replace them.

I fully expect Miami to leap-frog the Patriots for second in the AFC East. Hill will obviously be part of the reason. He is probably the most explosive player the franchise has ever had. The Buffalo Bills handled Miami pretty easily last year. Those games will certainly be more competitive this year, but the Bills are likely still the head of the class.

2. TYREEK HILL'S NUMBERS DROP OFF IN 2022

Tyreek Hill has been one of the best receivers in football since he entered the league in 2016. He is a six-time Pro Bowler and three-time All-Pro receiver. But he had the luxury of being the primary target of a transcendent quarterback in Patrick Mahomes.

A lot of Hill's incredible production would come on broken plays. Mahomes had the ability to keep plays alive with his legs, go off-script and find Hill eight or ten seconds into a play. The days of that are likely gone for Hill.

Tua Tagovailoa is not very mobile. He has shown to be a consistently accurate quarterback on quick, short and intermediate throws. The Dolphins quarterback likes to get the ball out of his hands quickly. That isn't a bad thing for Hill. I believe Miami will look to get the ball in his hands as much as they can. But knowing Tagovailoa's deficiencies on deep passes, Hill's impact is somewhat limited.

I can even foresee Miami giving Hill 3-5 carries per game. It won't look like what Atlanta does with Cordarrelle Patterson or the 49ers do with Deebo Samuel. But “the cheetah” might get a couple of jet sweeps, wide receiver screens, and quick tosses each game.

He might surpass 1,000 yards receiving. But if I were a betting man, I would bet against it.

1. JAYLEN WADDLE HAS MORE CATCHES THAN TYREEK HILL

Dolphins receiver Jaylen Waddle had an incredible rookie season last year. He finished with 104 catches and just over 1,000 yards receiving. He had an amazing rapport with Tagovailoa because they played together in college at Alabama. I don't think that is just going to go away now that Hill is in Miami.

Waddle is a similar type receiver as Hill. He is only 5′ 10”, 182 pounds who uses his speed and quickness to get open. He's not the most physical receiver and will not win hand-checks at the line of scrimmage with most defensive backs. But his ability to get off the line and create space allowed him to have a successful season.

The Dolphins now have two of those guys. Hill though is still the fastest player arguably in the NFL. He is going to draw a ton more coverage, and will pull that coverage downfield with him. That should allow even more space for Waddle underneath for easy completions. Hill might have more yards, but I believe Waddle will have more catches.
