With the Miami Dolphins moving on from the Ryan Tannehill this offseason there have been some questions if the team should regret taking him with the eighth pick in the 2012 NFL Draft. Coming out of Texas A&M most believed he was going to be a solid quarterback in the NFL, so the pick made a lot of sense.

General manager Chris Grier said the team doesn't have any regrets taking Tannehill, the one thing he wishes they would have done is to draft another quarterback to serve as a backup that they could bring in to start now.

“No, I don’t think it was a mistake,” Grier said this week during the NFL owners meetings via the Sun Sentinel.

“I think the one thing maybe we could have all done, and me pushing too, is drafting maybe someone behind him to come through, that could back him up, maybe,” Grier continued.

“But we had other needs and it was a different kind of mindset in terms of how we were doing things.”

Instead of having a solid young quarterback to be their starter this year, the Dolphins had to sign Ryan Fitzpatrick who could very well be a good starter this year, but he isn't the long term option.

The thought is that the Dolphins will be very active in the draft trying to get a new quarterback but don't look for them to force it. Either way, no matter who they draft it's expected that Fitzpatrick will be the starter when the season starts.
