Yates shared the news that the 26-year-old Fejedelem recently eloped over the weekend as his agent Mike McCartney announced the former Cincinnati Bengals signed a long-term deal with the Dolphins.
Article Continues BelowThe Bengals selected Fejedelem in the seventh round of the 2016 NFL Drat out of Illinois. The 6'0″ free safety appeared in every regular season game for the Bengals in his four-year tenure in Ohio, competing in 64 games mostly as a backup. Fejedelem made 33 percent of Cincinnati's snap counts on defense in his second season only to see that number drop last season with 11 percent. Instead, Fejedelem has played a big role on special teams, appearing in 85 percent of the Bengals' special-teams snap counts in 2019, per Pro Football Reference.
The Dolphins still have a lot of work to do in a make-or-break offseason. On the first day of the NFL's free agency on Monday, the Dolphins agreed to a three-year deal with defensive lineman Shaq Lawson, a free agent who played the first four years of his career in Buffalo.
Miami's contract with Fejedelem will not likely be as financially lucrative as the $30 million contract Lawson agreed to today. Nevertheless, the Dolphins still have big decisions to make, especially with free agent running back Melvin Gordon, as the AFC East franchise expressed interest in the Pro-Bowler, and with the draft coming up next month. The Dolphins are expected to take a quarterback with the fifth overall pick.
