This is such a bummer for Dolphins fans. Williams played tremendously through the first half before being forced to leave the field right before the intermission. Nonetheless, he still recorded 60 receiving yards on four receptions with one touchdown.
Article Continues BelowThe injury, unfortunately, happened during the touchdown that gave them a 21-14 lead. Williams scored after jumping to the end zone, with Cardinals safety Jalen Thompson landing on his left foot. The 23-year old seemed fine, even celebrating the touchdown, but then started hobbling a bit as he approached his teammates. What made it worse is that he appeared to have injured his right foot as well after defensive tackle Christian Wilkins jumped on him while celebrating.
Dolphins head coach Brian Flores previously said that they will evaluate Williams on a day-to-day basis. With Miami placing him on the IR, it seems like the undrafted receiver's injury could keep him out much longer and is more serious than they initially expected.
With Preston Williams out, this gives rookie stud Tua Tagovailoa less options to throw the ball to on offense. Williams has been playing well and is showing a lot of promise for Miami in his sophomore season. He has four touchdowns attached to his name and recorded a career-best 106 receiving yards and four catches, including a 32-yard touchdown reception in their 43–17 win over the San Francisco 49ers in Week 5.
