After Miami Dolphins running back Frank Gore suffered a sprained foot in last Sunday's loss to the Minnesota Vikings, the veteran back may be contemplating how much longer he'll play. Gore is 35 and most running backs only dream of having a career that long.

According to Michael David Smith, the future is a bit murky for Gore going forward after he was placed on IR, breaking his streak of 126 consecutive games played.

“Although Gore will turn 36 in May, he hasn’t given any indication that he plans to retire. After another strong season this year, he is fourth in NFL history with 14,478 rushing yards and fifth in NFL history with 18,544 yards from scrimmage.”

Gore has nothing left to prove at this point in his career, but he still looks fantastic out on the field and has plenty of juice left in the tank. The Dolphins made a surprise move by signing Gore prior to the season since Kenyan Drake has looked like the type of feature running back any team would want. But, the addition of Gore has allowed Miami to limit Drake's carries while giving him a veteran influence as he attempts to improve his game.

Gore has a big decision to make regarding his career. Nobody would fault him for calling it quits, but it's difficult for anyone to walk away, let alone a player of Gore's caliber. The Dolphins would presumably be fine at the running back position despite losing Gore, but he does provide solid wisdom at the position. The other backs are no doubt benefitting from Gore helping them, but his health is the biggest concern at this point.
