There have been surprising results from the quarterback competition that the Miami Dolphins are having. Veteran journeyman Ryan Fitzpatrick is beating out second-year pro-Josh Rosen for the job. Fitzpatrick, who's prone to winning these kinds of competitions spoke on this to Pro Football Talk, via the Palm Beach Post.

“Being a starting quarterback in this league, I think it’s something that you can never take for granted, you have a lot of people in the building, you have a lot of people in that locker room, a lot of fans that are relying on you to go out there and do your job. For me, it’s the reason that I still play. It’s a position that I love. It’s a position that I love being in. I’m excited to have the opportunity to compete to do it.” Fitzpatrick said.

Fitzpatrick, a Harvard graduate, is set to play for his eighth NFL team. Last year, he started in lieu of Jameis Winston for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Fitzpatrick (or should I say Fitzmagic) had a deadly stretch of play early on in the year but cooled off quickly. He became part of a dizzying quarterback carousel, starting some weeks, benched for others. When Fitz is hot, he looks like an MVP quarterback, but when he's cold, he's really, really cold.

As for Rosen, this is awful news. The former Bruin's move to Miami was supposed to be his career-revitalizing second chance, but it sure doesn't look like that. There's still some time for competition, but as of now, Fitzpatrick is getting the nod come Week 1.
