The Denver Broncos made headlines with the acquisition of former Baltimore Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco. As a result, there is plenty of speculation regarding the future of quarterback Case Keenum.

The prospect of Keenum returning to the Minnesota Vikings seems a bit far-fetched. However, according to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, it is possible if Minnesota can find a suitable trade partner for quarterback Kirk Cousins.

But let’s not dismiss it immediately. If the Vikings could find a trade partner for the balance of Cousins’ deal, they’d take a cap hit of only $2 million (Cousins received a $3 million signing bonus). The question is whether someone would trade for Cousins’ remaining agreement, at $58 million over two years.

The move would certainly be a best-case scenario for Keenum. He enjoyed the best year of his career as the starter for the Minnesota Vikings in the 2017 NFL season. As a result, the Broncos were quick to make him their franchise quarterback moving forward. Unfortunately, they have since softened from their plans after the veteran's lackluster 2018 campaign.

Meanwhile, it is no secret that Minnesota has not fared much better under center since Keenum's departure. They made quite the investment to sign Cousins during the sweepstakes last offseason, however, the team fell vastly short of expectations after failing to make the playoffs. Perhaps the Vikings could be looking to go back to square one when Keenum led them to the NFC Championship Game.

Of course, there are a number of factors to consider if this deal would ever get done. For starters, it remains to be seen whether or not the Vikings are ready to part ways with Cousins after just one year. The front office may also have a tough time garnering interest for a team willing to take on such a large contract.
