Wideout Julian Edelman underwent surgery in late October which dampened the hopes New England Patriots fans of a healthy offensive line. But recent news reveals that Edelman's recovery is doing well, providing some much-needed optimism for the Patriots.

Mike Reiss of ESPN noted in his column that Edelman is making a steady recovery from his knee procedure last October. The 34-year-old has done some on-field work. Nothing is etched in stone as the Patriots need to closely monitor the wide receiver in the coming days.

Things can always change in an instant, but I heard some optimism from those close to receiver Julian Edelman with how his knee has responded since he underwent a precautionary standard knee procedure on Oct. 29. That optimism is a result of some recent on-field work, in which Edelman was apparently moving well, but the key will be how the knee responds as he continues to stack days together.

Reiss added that the earliest return date for Edelman is on Nov. 22 when the Patriots face the Houston Texans. But before everything else, Edelman needs to put on a good showing this Wednesday — the team's first practice of the week.

Edelman, the Super Bowl LIII MVP, had 21 catches for 315 yards on the season before hitting the injured reserve list. His best performance came in Week 2 against the Seattle Seahawks where he nabbed eight catches for 179 yards.

While this is a noteworthy development, several analysts are wary about Edelman's inconsistency as of late. Many believe that being a mentor for the likes of Jakobi Meyers, Gunner Olszewski, and N'Keal Harry is his main job at this stage in his career.
