Following the conclusion of the 2016 season, running back LeGarrette Blount looked poised to return to the New England Patriots after helping the franchise win the Super Bowl after making a historic 25-point comeback.

However, things didn't quite shake out in that manner as the Patriots showed little interest in him and chose to sign Mike Gillislee instead in free agency. It is something that Blount voiced during NFL Network's America's Game episode commemorating the Philadelphia Eagles' Super Bowl win that still bothers him how the entire matter unfolded that gave him a sense of being disrespected, via Tyler Sullivan of 247 Sports.

“The way things ended there was not to my liking,” Blount said of New England. “I had told them how bad I wanted to be there and how much I wanted to stay there and I didn't want to leave, and they couldn't get a deal done for me. I just feel like they didn't respect me at all.”

Blount had worked his way into a crucial role in the backfield with the Patriots that saw him put together the best season of his career posting career highs with 1,161 rushing yards and 18 touchdowns that season. Although he didn't have a huge outing in the Super Bowl recording 31 yards on 11 carries and lost a fumble, his play was huge in helping New England get to that point.

This departure helped open the door for him to join the Philadelphia Eagles where he played a major part of their running game that saw him get the better of the Patriots in Super Bowl 52 recording 90 rushing yards on 14 carries with a touchdown. Blount was able to get one over on his former team on the grandest stage that likely gave him the ultimate satisfaction to show them what they were missing out on.

Ultimately, it is a situation that Blount still looks back at with much disappointment in what could have been a much longer tenure with the franchise.
