The New England Patriots are coming off their second loss of the 2019 NFL season. As a result, it initially appeared as though head coach Bill Belichick was set to make some changes to the special teams.
According to NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport, it was reported that the Patriots were looking to bring back kicker Nick Folk after recovering from an appendectomy.
The #Patriots, who still do not currently have a kicker on the roster, are expected to re-sign Nick Folk, source said. He missed last week because of appendectomy. But he should be healthy now.

Rapoport has since walked back his initial report after Belichick indicated that Folk may not yet be healthy enough for a return. He refuted the news during a press conference, citing his lack of health.
Article Continues Below“Update to this, with Bill Belichick telling reporters that Folk may not be headed back: The question was, Is he healthy enough after his appendectomy? And perhaps he’s not,” said Rapoport via Twitter.
It is no secret that New England has struggled to secure a consistent kicker throughout the 2019 NFL season. It appears they may have to wait a little longer if they hope Folk can fill the void for the rest of the year.
The Patriots woes started when kicker Stephen Gostkowski suffered a season-ending hip injury. They have since cycled through kickers Mike Nugent, Kai Forbath, and Folk before losing their waiver claim for kicker Chase McLaughlin to the Indianapolis Colts.
Folk hit 7 of 9 field goals for New England and all of his extra points. It seems New England will have to find a way to get by at kicker for another week. Though, they currently do not have one employed.
