The New England Patriots are still one of the top teams in the NFL, and their defense is an important component to the team's unbeaten run. One would easily think that Bill Belichick is once again the man Patriots fans all over have to thank for their fantastic start to the season.
However, it's actually Bill's son, Steve, who has taken over the Patriots defense. He's become the main play-caller in the defense ever since Brian Flores left to take over a struggling Miami Dolphins team.
Multiple sources confirmed that it's Belichick's son who's been making the defensive calls that gave birth to The Boogeymen. His quiet observations, followed by advice on how the defense should approach the game, has made the Patriots into one of the most difficult defensive teams to play against in the NFL.
Many within the organization are showering him with high praise. For example, safety Terrence Brooks has nothing but warm words for the Patriots' safety coach since 2016.

He understands his players, he goes out there and he wants you to do right. He’s pulling for you. You always come across some coaches who just wanna yell, but he makes you learn, he teaches you things and expects a lot out of his DBs.”
Belichick quickly credited the talent his father added to the defense as the primary reason for the team's success.
“It’s what you work for — to go out and compete on Sundays,” Belichick said. “We’ve got a great group of defensive players. They play hard. It’s been a lot of fun working with Jerod and everybody on staff.”
Belichick started his coaching career as the defensive coordinator for the New York Giants before eventually becoming the head coach for the Cleveland Browns and the Patriots. If his pedigree is any indication, the younger Belichick has the potential to become as effective a head coach as his father.
