The New England Patriots knew in themselves that they saw something in then-free agent quarterback Cam Newton that other teams failed to see. They decided to take a chance on the three-time Pro Bowler and signed him to a one-year ‘prove it' deal.

Newton recognizes that this was an opportunity of a lifetime for him and shared his emotions when he was officially named as the Patriots' QB1 and one of the team captains for the upcoming season:

“Man, listen, words can’t even explain my feelings when I heard,” Newton said of being named a captain. “Ever since I first spoke to any personnel with the team, I wanted to make sure they understood my drive and understand I’m not taking this opportunity for granted. Whether it’s showing up as early as I do show up or leave as late as I leave, I know people know that my heart is in the right place.

The former Auburn standout knew that the chance to play for the Patriots and legendary head coach Bill Belichick doesn't come every day. He is looking to make the most out of the chance given to him and prove to the rest of the league that he still has a lot left in the tank.

His first campaign with the Patriots will be anything but easy as heavy responsibilities are going to be put on his shoulders. He will also be expected to show the way for a decorated franchise that is aiming to defend its AFC East division title for the 12th-straight season.

Football fans especially Patriots nation can't wait to see how the Cam Newton era will pan out in the long run.
