The New England Patriots defense was dominant in 2019. However, if there's one weakness on that side of the ball, it's the team's lack of a dominant edge rushers. In a recent mock draft, CBS Sports has New England promptly addressing that need.

The mock has the Patriots picking long, athletic edge rusher Yetur Gross-Matos. The Penn State defender was one of the best pass rushers in all of college football this past season, recording nine sacks and 14 tackles for a loss for the Nittany Lions.

Additionally, the production isn't anything new for the junior as the season before, Gross-Matos recorded 54 tackles, eight sacks, and an incredible 20 tackles for a loss.

The Patriots have the 23rd pick in the upcoming draft so while they may miss out on the class' top few pass rushers, Gross-Matos is no consolation prize.

At 6-foot-5 and 264 pounds, the Penn State star has a long, athletic frame with elite explosiveness to match. The defensive end obviously has a knack of getting in the opponent's backfield and since the majority of New England's sack production came from the linebacker position, the team could use a guy to pair up with promising rookie Chase Winovich.

Already possessing an elite secondary, the Patriots could use Gross-Matos' explosiveness and relentless pursuit.

It may be tempting for New England to draft a player at a position like wide receiver but at their current draft position, not many players offer the superstar potential that Gross-Matos does.

Patriots fans will have a chance to watch the Penn State defender at the NFL combine which starts on February 23.
