The New England Patriots were without Sony Michael on Monday night against the Buffalo Bills and instead of James White or Kenjon Barner starting at running back, they decided to start wide receiver, Cordarrelle Patterson. He was solid finishing with the game with ten carries for 38 yards and he enjoyed his time so much he is hoping he gets more carries this Sunday against the Green Bay Packers.

“I’ve been playing every position my entire life,” said Patterson via NESN. “So when my number’s called, I’ll be ready. (Offensive coordinator) Josh (McDaniels) did a hell of a job putting me back there. He trusted me. I had 10 carries (Monday night), so I’m thankful for that. Next week, I hope I get like 25 carries.”

Patterson is a former first-round pick who has his limitations as a wide receiver but he is a playmaker and he is a threat to go all the way anytime he touches the ball. Coach Bill Belichick was happy with what he has seen from Patterson this year and thought he did a good job out of the backfield.

“C.P. is a great athlete, and he does a great job with the ball in his hands, so we were able to get it to him a few times,” Bill Belichick  said.“He’s done a great job in the return game and on some other plays that he had the chance to run it. It looked like he had a couple of solid runs out there. We’re a little light at the running back position, so we needed him to step up, and he did.”

It's unclear how many carries the Patriots are planning on giving Patterson but it appears he is going to be ready to go when his name is called.
