Usually in the final preseason game, teams will not play their starters and rest them for week one. But the Patriots aren't that sort of team.

Although they didn't play the starters like Tom Brady and the McCourty twins, they still played the likes of Julian Edelman. This move almost turned into a disaster as the former Kent State quarterback almost suffered a serious injury. Luckily enough, nothing came of it when the team trainers looked at his thumb, a thumb that has been injured previously.

The reigning Super Bowl MVP appeared to re-aggravate the thumb injury after a 20-yard catch and run. It was a minor scare to Julian Edelman and the Patriots. However, everyone was relieved about the fact that he didn't have to go back to the locker room to get it checked on even further.

Without any news of something serious, the 33-year-old wideout will likely be playing in the first regular season game against the Pittsburgh Steelers. But after this brief scare with Edelman's injury, the Patriots and head coach Bill Belichick might need to rethink about putting in the receivers and veterans that they expect to start in the first week of the season.

Edelman is expected to be one of Tom Brady's top receiving weapons once again this season along with Josh Gordon, first-round pick N'Keal Harry, and Demaryius Thomas. He had 74 catches for 850 yards and six touchdowns in 12 games last season.

The Patriots start their first game of the season on September 8th at 8:20 pm for Sunday Night football.
