The New England Patriots have been looking for depth on the offensive line, and it seems like they have found their guy in Jared Veldheer. According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network Veldheer visited with the Patriots last week and now the two sides have agreed on a contract.

Veldheer was drafted in 2010 in the third round by the Oakland Raiders and has enjoyed a solid NFL career. He spent the first four years of his career with the Raiders before being cut and later picked up by the Arizona Cardinals. He was traded from the Cardinals to the Denver Broncos last year, and in the mile high city, he started 12 games at right tackle before losing the rest of the season to a knee injury.

Veldheer is 6-foot-8 and weighs 321 pounds and should provide solid depth at the tackle position for a team that desperately needs it. The Patriots drafted Isaiah Wynn with their first-round pick last year but he suffered an Achilles injury, and it's unclear if he will be ready to start the season.

If Wynn can't start the season, it will probably be Veldheer that will be called into action to replace him. Veldheer is also very versatile and could move inside if the team needs him to fill in at one of the guard spots.

It's unclear exactly how much Veldheer has signed for, but anything more than the veterans' minimum would seem like a bit of a surprise. This feels like a good value signing and could be a way for Veldheer to compete on a winning football team.
