Just one season removed from having Tom Brady, the New England Patriots have another quarterback they are looking to build around. Mac Jones has proven enough that the Pats can look to build around him. With the 2022 NFL Draft right around the corner, they could fortify their depth as they look to get back to the playoffs.
The wide receiver position is a key area to address. Acquiring DeVante Parker in a trade with the Miami Dolphins was a good move but New England still needs a reliable top option.
Matt Groh, the Patriots' director of player personnel, said that they can't wait for a star wide receiver to fall into their lap. He mentioned that the incoming draft class has tons of promising youngsters.
Asked Matt Groh, #Patriots director of player personnel, if the recent explosion of contracts given to WRs makes drafting that position more important. Says "You've gotta be proactive…" with that position and can't just wait and expect what you want will fall to you.

The draft, of course, offers plenty of intriguing options. Treylon Burks, Chris Olave, Garrett Wilson and Drake London headline the WR prospects in the 2022 NFL Draft. The Patriots should look to add a wideout in one of the first few rounds of the draft. Since they have other needs, they could use their first-round pick elsewhere and draft a WR with a day-two pick.
The trade market and free agency have a few solid options. Julio Jones and Jarvis Landry are still available. New England could also look to rebuilding teams and trade for a wide receiver. For example, they might be able to convince the New York Giants to part with Kenny Golladay in exchange for draft capital.
Rookie wide receivers from the past few years have a great track record of panning out. New England should take note of this as they look to build around Jones.
