The New England Patriots are coming off of their sixth Super Bowl victory in franchise history and are gearing up to make another run in 2019. Despite that, Tom Brady's contract has been the talk of training camp so far.
With the Patriots beginning training camp, there is no extension yet for Tom Brady. The long-time quarterback for the Patriots still intends to play until he's 45-years old but why hasn't New England given him a new contract?
Heading into this season, Brady is entering the final year of his current deal with the Patriots. This season, Brady is due $14 million but serves as a $27 million cap hit to the team.
The difference in his contract than other quarterbacks' is that Brady has a ton of incentives involved in his contract. That is why there's a $13 million gap between his salary and cap hit. Those incentives allow Brady to remain motivated while he is winning games under center still.
The future Hall of Fame quarterback turns 42 on Saturday but still has a few years left in the tank. It would come as a surprise if the Patriots don't extend Brady after this season. Brady also isn't worried about getting an extension at this moment.
Per the Boston Globe:

Brady also joked with the media to “talk to Mr. Kraft” about why there isn't an extension. Of course, he is referring to Robert Kraft, the renowned owner of the Patriots.
“Have I earned it? I don’t know, that’s up for talk-show debate,” he said. “What do you guys think? Should we take a poll? Talk to Mr. Kraft, come on.”
It's likely that at this point of Brady's career, New England and him are playing it by a year-to-year basis. It's hard to picture Brady in another uniform and New England will likely make sure that stays true.
