New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski sounded as if he was going to play on Monday Night Football against the Buffalo Bills after missing last week against the Chicago Bears. And it looks as though that is exactly what will end up happening, per Ian Rapoport of NFL Network:

For tonight’s game against the Bills, the expectation is that Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski plays, source said. He is listed as questionable. Barring a setback with his back, he should be good. The week off likely helped his ankle, too.

Gronkowski was held out against the Bears after experiencing back spasms. But despite being without Gronk for the first time this season, the Patriots offense ended up being just fine. They scored 38 points — the fourth game in a row that they’ve reached that mark — as they just edged out the Bears.

Josh Gordon had his first 100-yard game as a Patriot while running back James White had two receiving touchdowns. Chris Hogan also stepped up with six catches on seven targets for 63 yards.

Gronkowksi hasn’t had the most productive season thus far. He has only one touchdown catch in six games, which is well below his career norm. However, his mere presence on the field still makes a significant difference for the Patriots offense.

The Patriots could likely beat the Bills even without Gronkowski’s help. But they should be pleased to have him back in the lineup after a one-week absence, which should only strengthen their chances of victory in Buffalo.
