Following months of speculation, the New England Patriots recently agreed to a restructured contract with star tight end Rob Gronkowski that will give him a pay raise of $4 million for the 2018 season.
According to Zack Cox of NESN, Gronkowski voiced on Tuesday afternoon that he is happy that his deal was reworked prior to the season and was satisfied with it beforehand as well.
Rob Gronkowski said he was happy to get his contract restructure done before the season: “It’s go time now.”
Added that he’s “super satisfied” with his contact situation. Said he would have considered holding out if he wasn’t.

Gronkowski has certainly put himself in position to earn a raise given his consistent production throughout his career, establishing himself as arguably the best tight end in the league. He is coming off a campaign where he led the Patriots with 69 receptions, 1,084 receiving yards, and eight touchdowns, earning a Pro Bowl selection and a First-Team All-Pro nod. It marked his fourth 1,000-receiving yard season and third over the last four years along, as well as his sixth season with at least eight touchdown receptions.
Gronkowski has dealt with injuries throughout his career, but he appears to be past them as he went through last year without any true concern for his health. He recently said this is the best he has felt in quite some time heading into a season. This should set the table for him to put together another highly productive year where he will be a huge part of the offensive game plan, especially with the Patriots being quite thin at wide receiver heading into the year.
Gronkowski is currently under contract through the 2019 campaign. He could be in line for an extension next offseason to stay a Patriot for possibly the remainder of his career. For the time being, it appears he is completely satisfied with his current standing with the franchise.
