The New England Patriots are still holding out hope for Rob Gronkowski's return. Though the 30-year-old tight end is retired, he hasn't put the papers in to do so officially.

Said Patriots owner Robert Kraft heading into “Thursday Night Football,” via James Palmer of NFL Network:

We all love Gronk and I think the bottom line is, he hasn't put his retirement papers in. We can always pray and hope …. That's a good academic argument that there is hope for us still with Gronk.”

The Patriots are yet to release Gronkowski. In the scenario in which he comes back, he can return to the team on his same contract. However, despite speculation that he isn't done, Gronkowski hasn't given any indication that he will do so. In fact, he is now an NFL analyst for FOX; his first assignment will be Thursday's game: the Patriots vs. the New York Giants.

Gronkowski decided to end his career after winning the Super Bowl with the Patriots in February. The tight end played with injuries throughout his career. Though the exact severity is unknown, he claims to have suffered 20 concussions in his life, including five blackout ones. He said he had trouble getting out of bed.

It's possible that Gronkowski returns. However, to do so, he wants the NFL to legalize CBD, which he invests in. In all, his NFL career is finalized with a stat line of 521 receptions for 7,861 yards and 79 touchdowns. Though his resume may not have big numbers, he should find his way to Canton, Ohio; no matter if he sticks to retirement or not.
