Former NFL wideout converted talk-show host Shannon Sharpe has a lot to say about Julian Edelman, and not all of it is very kind.

He tweeted out Saturday:

“Julian Edelman has been fined over 63k dollars for 3 separate unnecessary roughness penalties against Buffalo last Sunday. I’ve said on numerous occasions for yrs. He’s a dirty player. Being small and white gets you labeled gritty, hard nosed, tough. No he’s dirty.”

Edelman does have a reputation for being a very tough player. His ability as a quarterback is also unheralded, as the Patriots have many times used him in a trick play passing out to either Tom Brady or another wide-out. He's so small, quick and strong, that often times the grit he plays with can cause him to get in trouble with the officials.

Though unsurprising, Sharpe not enjoying Edelman as a player seems to be more of a product of his public perception rather than his talent as an NFL wide receiver.

Edelman has played in 11 games this season for the Patriots. Though he's struggled with injuries this season, he's still one of Brady's most dependable targets and always gets the looks that he deserves.

This season for New England Edelman has 69 receptions and a total of 781 reception yards. He's scored 5 touchdowns this season, and also has been targeted over 100 times. He's still a very effective wideout for the Pats and will be a major weapon for Brady heading into the postseason.

The Patriots are 10-5 this season and currently sit 1st in the AFC East Division. They will face off in a divisional battle against the New York Jets in Week 17 at home.
