The New England Patriots kept the ball rolling in the right direction on Thursday night with a convincing 38-24 win over the Indianapolis Colts.

This saw the return of veteran wide receiver Julian Edelman after missing the first four games of the season due to a four-game suspension for violating the league's performance-enhancing drug policy.

Edelman put together a solid outing with making seven catches on nine targets for 59 receiving yards in the contest, which quarterback Tom Brady voiced after the game that he was happy to have Edelman back on the field, according to Tyler Sullivan of 247 Sports.

“That was great. I mean, we wanted to get him involved and he made some great plays,” Brady said of Edelman's return. “Just good to have him out there. You know, I’m sure we all want it to be perfect every time we go out, but I was really happy to be out there with him. He’s a great player, and obviously, the more great players you have out there, the better we’re going to move the ball and score points. You know, I’ve been playing with Jules for a long time and really happy to have him out there healthy and having fun.”

Over the last few years, Edelman has proven to be Brady's favorite target in the passing game that has made him a huge part of the team's game plan offensively. His seamless return to the line up as a reliable receiving option adds another crucial element to the puzzle that could push the Patriots back to being the clear-cut favorite in the AFC to reach the Super Bowl.

Beyond that, Edelman looked to be in great shape physically, especially after being out of the mix for the first month of the season. This should see his time on the field expand as he was a snap count on Thursday night to see how much he can handle in his first game back.

Nonetheless, the return of Edelman could see a pivotal impact on the team offensively over the rest of the season in the Patriots' quest to contend for a third straight trip to the Super Bowl.
