The New England Patriots have had a roller-coaster start to their 2018 season, splitting their first two games of the year as star quarterback Tom Brady hasn't been producing at the same MVP-caliber level.

The pace Brady has currently put himself at through the first four games of the year has the potential to push him away from possibly earning the addition $5 million in incentives he had reworked in his salary for this year, according to Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk.

Brady can make $1 million by hitting any, some, or all of five specific incentives: (1) finishing in the top five in passer rating; (2) finishing in the top five in completion percentage; (3) finishing in the top five in yards per attempt; (4) finishing in the top five in touchdown passes; and (5) finishing in the top five in passing yards.

Brady is currently 16th in passer rating among starting quarterbacks (15th if Ryan Fitzpatrickis omitted from the list), 20th in completion percentage (19th if Fitzpatrick is omitted), 26th in yards per attempt (25th if Fitzpatrick is omitted), tied for eighth in touchdown passes, and 20th in passing yards.

Brady bounced back a bit last weekend against the Detroit Lions, but there has been a notable drop-off from his play from last year that saw him become the oldest player in NFL history to win the MVP award. He has yet to notch a 300-yard passing performance and has thrown an interception in three out of the first four games played.

However, there is still plenty of time for Brady to turn it around. He could finally get the help in the passing game he needs with the return of wide receiver Julian Edelman from his four-game suspension. Meanwhile, Josh Gordon has the potential to bring game-changing impact to the passing game that could elevate the offense to the next level.

Ultimately, Brady has plenty of time to get back on track toward earning those lucrative incentives this season.
