New England Patriots quarterback Cam Newton previously switched his diet and became a vegan. With Thanksgiving festivities coming in a few weeks from now, he will have to get creative in finding ways to enjoy the holidays while still sticking to the limitations of his diet.
He went on to detail the meals that he will be putting on the table minus the traditional turkey come Thanksgiving on the Greg Hill Morning Show:
“There will be some alternative meals, for sure,” said the Patriots QB.
“My children and family will be coming up so I’m excited about that. But everything that you probably have for your Thanksgiving I can still probably have outside of like turkey…
“You got stuffing. You’ve got collard greens. You know, my family is kind of Geechie when it comes to having rice with everything.
“My family does a great red rice with sausage. You can transfer that with either Beyond or Impossible Meat. Mac and cheese, [I’ve also] found a way to do that too.”
The 2015 NFL MVP was vocal about his personal advocacy for vegetarianism and was even featured in a video campaign titled “Build Like a Vegan” purposefully made for PETA, an animal-rights charitable organization, earlier this year.
He alluded that committing to a vegan diet has changed the way his body reacts to his food intake, which helped to better his performance on the field ahead of joining New England. It was also evident that he has been exerting valiant efforts playing under center for the Patriots despite the team's occasional struggles as a unit thus far.
Cam Newton is hopeful that making a switch to become a vegetarian will eventually pay off on the gridiron as he aims to lead the Patriots back to the 2020 NFL Playoffs by the end of the regular season.
