The New Orleans Saints and Los Angeles Chargers nearly had a change of venue thanks to Hurricane Delta.

However, the storm is apparently straying west of Louisiana, and Saints head coach Sean Payton revealed the game is likely to be played in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome:

“Well look I think we are fortunate right now,” Payton said, via James Palmer of NFL Network. “It appears that we are going to be able to stay…and this storm is staying a little bit more towards the west of us.”

The NFL had to come up with contingency plans after the storm initially threatened to sweep through New Orleans.

Zak Keefer of The Athletic reported Wednesday the Indianapolis Colts were informed the Saints and Chargers might need to play at Lucas Oil Stadium.

However, it appears the game will happen in New Orleans as scheduled.

The two teams are in very different situations heading into Week 5. New Orleans got back on track with a win over the Detroit Lions last Sunday, and are now 2-2 on the year. The Chargers, meanwhile, have lost three straight after losing a lead to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Los Angeles has lost its three games by a combined 15 points.

Both teams will be glad not to see a major alteration in plans, particularly considering some of the other calamity around the league due to COVID-19.

Delta has an expected landfall of Friday, and is currently a Category 2 storm. Winds could reach up to over 100 miles per hour.

The Saints will probably be staying put, though they will also likely bear in mind those parts of Louisiana, which will potentially be impacted.
