After over a month of waiting, Jameis Winston finally found a new home in free agency, signing with the New Orleans Saints.

Following his decision to sign with New Orleans, Winston appeared on the Rich Eisen Show and proclaimed that he isn't thinking about his long-term future (via Charean Williams of Pro Football Talk).

“That wasn’t even on my mind … What convinced me was the opportunity, and when I talked to coach Payton, he gave it to me straight forward, and he said one thing that I really admired: [I will get] the chance to compete. The chance to compete with an amazing quarterback room and learn from the best, and I think that really sold me because I’ve been playing against them for five years, and I’m a firm believer in that room and what Drew has done and what [Payton] has done.”

Earlier this week, Winston signed a one-year deal to join the Saints in 2020. Even though New Orleans sees Taysom Hill as the heir apparent to Drew Brees, the former No. 1 overall draft pick saw the Saints as the best opportunity for himself.

Prior to Winston coming aboard, Teddy Bridgewater was able to spend two seasons with the Saints before he signed a lucrative deal with the Carolina Panthers this offseason. Given that, Winston would like to get a chance to do the same in New Orleans.

Winston was also fond of the idea of signing with the Saints due to getting a chance to learn from Brees. Despite the move affecting his future, he is focused on taking it day-by-day next season.
