Taysom Hill of the New Orleans Saints is one of the most intriguing players in the NFL, fitting into a world with Sean Payton and Drew Brees.
He is a quarterback by nominal position, but since seeing his first NFL action in 2017, he has thrown just 13 passes. Part of that is because Drew Brees is under center for the New Orleans Saints. Another part is due to Hill being a Swiss army knife.
The Saints have used Hill as a rusher, a receiver and a kick returner over the course of his first few seasons, and this year, he actually tallied six receiving touchdowns.
With Brees being 41 years old, rumor has it that New Orleans actually views Hill as its quarterback of the future, and Hill feels blessed to have Brees and head coach Sean Payton guiding him along:
“I think so much of this has been around coach [Sean] Payton and Drew,” Hill said, per Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk. “They’re so good at putting guys in the best position to be successful. I’ve been the perfect example of that. I’m grateful that they created opportunities for me and had a vision and said ‘Man, I think this guy can do this really well.'”
Hill, who played his collegiate football BYU, went undrafted in 2017 but landed with the Green Bay Packers as a free agent. Then, just before the start of the 2017 regular season, the Saints picked him up off waivers.
The 29-year-old played in five games in 2017, but did not actually log a statistic. He finally got an opportunity in 2018, tallying a couple of rushing scores.
