The New York Giants are an interesting team to watch during the 2021 NFL draft. After another season missing the playoffs, the Giants are looking to continue building the roster up. The Giants have many needs across the board including wide receiver, offensive line, and edge.
The Giants were very active in free agency and made many moves to help the team get back to contention. Most notably they signed star receiver Kenny Golladay on a four year deal. The addition of Golladay finally gives quarterback Daniel Jones a reliable number one target. They were also able to bolster the defense through the signing of cornerback Adoree' Jackson and the re-signing of defensive tackle Leonard Williams.
The signing of Jackson could turn the Giants into elite secondary along with James Bradberry IV, Logan Ryan, Jabrill Peppers, and Xavier McKinney.
With the right draft picks the Giants defense could rise to the top of the league in the near future.
Giants options:
3. LSU WR Terrance Marshall
If Marshall falls to pick 42 the Giants should not hesitate to take him.
Although they signed Golladay in free agency the Giants still need to add at the position. Getting Marshall would give New York the perfect compliment at wide receiver to Kenny Golladay. With his frame and elite speed, Marshall would be a true threat on the outside. Giving Daniel Jones another receiver would finally give him a great receiving core and we may see a huge jump from Jones next season.
2. Ohio State OG Wyatt Davis
Protecting your quarterback is one of the most important things to do and the Giants need to address that. Wyatt Davis would be a perfect option for New York as he is a plug and play guard. His game would easily translate to the pro level and would be a solid addition to the offensive line. Davis' lateral mobility and strength allows him to win at the point of attack creating lanes for the ball carrier. An addition of Davis would would improve the game of Daniel Jones and could even take star running back Saquon Barkley up another level.
Davis would be a great pick for the Giants and would instantly elevate their offense.
1. Miami Edge Jaelan Phillips
The Giants need to add a pass rusher as they ranked 19th in the league this past season. Jaelan Phillips would be the perfect player to fill that void. Phillips is one of the most talented players on the edge in the draft. The only reason he is projected to fall is due to injury concerns. Phillips has a history of concussions which brings concern to some people around the league but if he is able to avoid that he could be the steal of the draft. His length and athleticism allows him to win at the point of attack. Phillips is also a aware run defender which is a talent most players don't have entering the draft. With his unique skill set Phillips could be an elite edge rusher in the league for a long time.
