Former New York Giants wide receiver Victor Cruz is not happy about the fact that the NFL has elected to cancel its entire preseason slate this time around. While Cruz is thinking more long-term here as the NFL doesn't have much of a choice this offseason as the “coronavirus” pandemic continues to run rampant throughout the United States, the former Giants standout relied heavily on an impressive preseason effort, one that sparked his entire professional playing career.
Because there won't be any preseason games ahead of the 2020 regular season, fringe players that are just on the cusp of making a team could see themselves on the outside looking in at 53-man rosters as they will have only practice to stand out.
Guys like me needed every bit of those preseason games.

A former Pro Bowler and one-time Super Bowl champion as a member of the aforementioned Giants, Cruz notably forced his way onto New York's roster ahead of the 2010 and 2011 campaigns, thanks to an impressive display during the preseason. A mainstay for the Giants offense by the 2011 season, Cruz went on to spend his entire seven-year NFL playing career in East Rutherford.
Appearing in 70 career regular-season games with 53 starts as a member of the Giants, Cruz tallied 303 receptions for 4,549 yards and 25 touchdowns in all. He produced two single-season efforts of more than 1,000 yards, which came in 2011 and 2012 — his first two full seasons atop the highest level.
The Giants are one of the younger teams in the entire NFL as it stands today while New York might have a tough time trimming its roster down this offseason.
