Beating the New England Patriots is not something the New York Jets are accustomed to doing. Aside from the Jets' playoff win over the Patriots back in January 2011, New England has had New York's number for almost two decades.
However, new Jets head coach Adam Gase seems determined to change that.
According to Manish Mehta of The New York Daily News, new Jets linebacker C.J. Mosley says that Gase made it very clear to the club at the start of offseason workouts that he is “here to beat the Patriots.”
But honestly, the franchise should probably just worry about beating everyone else first.
New York is coming off of a 2018 campaign in which it won just four games and has not made the playoffs since that run in which it beat the Pats all the way back in the 2010-11 season.
As a result of the Jets' recent ineptitude, the team fired head coach Todd Bowles after four seasons with the club and replaced him with Gase, who had spent the last two years coaching another AFC East team: the Miami Dolphins.
The Dolphins actually did beat the Pats this past season, defeating Bill Belichick's club thanks to a miracle lateral late in the season that, at the time, kept Miami's slim playoff hopes alive.
Of course, the Jets have made some big moves this offseason, not only adding Mosley, but bolstering their offense by signing running back Le'Veon Bell and wide receiver Jamison Crowder.
In an AFC East that really is not all that great, New York should, at the very least, be New England's biggest threat in the division.
