The 2017 season came and went without former New York Jets center Nick Mangold. Unfortunately, there still does not seem to be a set date for his return to the league.
Mangold was released by the Jets last offseason after dealing with a lingering foot injury. During an appearance on The Michael Kay Show, ESPN 98.7, the two-time First-Team All-Pro said that he is still undecided on whether he will play in 2018.
Article Continues BelowFormer Jets C Nick Mangold, who sat out the season, said he's undecided on whether to play in 2018. Mangold, 34, said he's “in football purgatory. I'm not up and I'm not down. I'm somewhere in between, all over the place. My foot is starting to feel better. I'm starting to get back into things. Is this something I still want to do? I don't know where I am.” He said his foot, injured in 2016, never was healthy last season.
The Jets selected Mangold with the 29th overall pick in the 2006 NFL Draft following a decorated college career at Ohio State. He was the second piece of a formidable offensive line that New York started to build in that draft after taking future three-time Pro Bowl left tackle D'Brickashaw Ferguson with the fourth overall pick.
However, it was Mangold that ultimately proved to be the true anchor of the Jets' offensive line over the next decade en route to seven Pro Bowl selections before his release in 2017. Unfortunately, it seems the year off did little to help his foot injury. That said, Mangold's doubt at this point in the year does little to suggest that he will be ready to go by the time training camp rolls around for the 2018 season.
