When the New York Jets settled on Adam Gase as their next head coach, it was met with skepticism by some. According to the team, however, it was the right move all along.

In a new statement by Jets CEO Christopher Johnson formally announcing the hire, he noted that Gase not only was the right person for the job, but also was ā€œthe right fitā€ when it comes to leading the team to a more winning culture. Johnson also praised the vision that Gase had, indicating that was what sold the team to him as a potential coach.

ā€œAdam is a young, creative mind, but he also has 22 years of coaching experience.ā€ he said. ā€œHe has helped a number of different quarterbacks, at various stages of their careers, reach new heights. We think Sam (Darnold) will continue to develop under his tutelage, but we made the decision because of Adam’s vision for the entire football team.ā€

Gase, who most recently served as the head coach for the Miami Dolphins, is known for his ability to mentor and develop quarterbacks, something that the Jets no doubt took into consideration thanks to Sam Darnold. Prior to Miami, Gase had been famously linked to Peyton Manning during his time with the Denver Broncos, where Gase – the offensive coordinator at the time – led the team to some staggering numbers en route to a Super Bowl and multiple playoff appearances.

Although Gase did have his fair share of problems in Miami, the Jets seem more than willing to bet on his ability to develop talent and guide the team back into some winning ways.
