The New York Jets are undergoing noteworthy challenges early on in the 2024 season. On Oct. 8, news broke that the team parted ways with head coach Robert Saleh. Moreover, the team is navigating what seems to be unending contract negotiations with defensive end Haason Reddick. Reddick is performing a strategic holdout, but his situation received a noteworthy update on Thursday.
Creative Artists Agency (CAA), the agency that represents Reddick, has parted ways with the pass rusher, per Ian Rapoport of NFL Network. Reddick has not shown up at the Jets' practice facility, has collected millions in fines, and his strained standing with New York looks to have no clear end in sight, Rapoport added.
The Jets traded for Haason Reddick in April of 2024. He joined the team after spending the first four years of his NFL career with the Arizona Cardinals, one season with the Carolina Panthers, and two seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles.
Article Continues BelowReddick amassed 38 total tackles, 11 sacks, and one forced fumble with the Eagles in 2023, so the Jets knew they were getting a quality defender. However, Reddick wanted New York to extend his contract, and he decided to hold out on team events as a negotiation tactic. Yet, he and the Jets have not agreed on an extension months into their relationship.
Creative Artists Agency's move on Reddick is intriguing. Perhaps this is a turning point in the veteran pass rusher's negotiations with the Jets. New York could use Reddick's services on defense, but they have shown they are not afraid to proceed without him.
The Jets' start to the season has not been the best, but they retain a second-place standing in the AFC East with a 2-3 record. Although the team is going through changes, there remains plenty of time to turn things around and get into the playoff race.
