The Los Angeles Clippers are hoping for a lot of greatness, especially when Kawhi Leonard is leading the team. On Tuesday night against the San Antonio Spurs, late in the game, it appeared as all was lost.

The Clippers, however, had a chance to tie the game and force overtime. Sadly, Kawhi Leonard missed a three-pointer with 2.6 seconds left, allowing the Spurs to escape with their third win of the season.

While Leonard has established himself as one of the game’s best players during his time with the Spurs, the Toronto Raptors, and the Clippers, the crucial miss against his former team continued a run of futility when it comes to game-tying or go-ahead three-pointers.

Per ESPN Stats and Info, Leonard’s miss was his eighth consecutive when it came to game-tying or go-ahead three-pointers in the final 24 seconds of the fourth quarter or overtime, giving him a 1-of-9 shooting from distance with the game on the line for his career.

The two-time champion and two-time Finals MVP has proven himself to be reliable on the game’s biggest stage, even making one of the most memorable clutch baskets in the playoffs in recent memory. But his struggles from beyond the arc in clutch situations is surprising, and is something that will be closely watched throughout the season with Los Angeles expected to contend in the West and likely to go on a deep playoff run.

Leonard still led the Clippers with 30 points, 10 assists, and three rebounds in the loss against San Antonio as the team played without Paul George. He has a chance to bounce back from the defeat when the Clippers face the Golden State Warriors today.
