The worst possible outcome involving the mysterious disappearance of  Louis Nix III happened on Saturday after his mother confirmed that the former NFL defensive lineman has passed away. Just a day after the Notre Dame standout was reported missing, authorities reportedly recovered Nix's car from a pond near his apartment in Jacksonville.

Further details surrounding his death remain unclear at the moment. Nix was just 29 years old at the time of his passing.

Nix was last seen driving his gray four-door Hyundai Azera with Florida license plate number JGFM41. His mother also shared what turned out to be the final conversation he'll ever have with his son.

“I called (on Monday) to see if he felt up to driving his brother to work. He didn't feel up to it but he came (anyway), asked me what I was up to and told him (I) appreciate him, told me he loved me. (He) called me back to say his brother made it on time and he was going to take it easy,” she said, per Ben Becker of Action News Jax. 

Nix was very close with his mother and the sudden lack of communication between the two was unlikely of him, which was a clear sign he was in danger.

After a successful collegiate career in Notre Dam, Louis Nix was drafted by the Houston Texans in the third round of the 2014 NFL Draft. He went on to play for the New York Giants and Jacksonville Jaguars as well as a practice player for the Washington Redskins.
