For a while, it appeared the NFL had the coronavirus pandemic in check. The number of positive tests was dwindling. In fact, it had gotten to the point that there was only one person left on the COVID/reserved list.

Then just a few days ago, there was another case. Then two more. Four total might not sound like much, but could it have been the start of an avalanche? Obviously the hope was that this would not be the case.

Now here we are on Tuesday though, and according to Kevin Seifert of ESPN, there are 10 players and league workers who were positive for the coronavirus in the latest rounds of testing.

A total of 10 NFL players and other team personnel tested positive for the coronavirus during the league's latest testing period of Aug. 21-29, the NFL and NFL Players Association announced Tuesday.

10 is still not a very high total. However, there is no denying that this is far from a positive trend for the NFL.

It was only a few days ago that there was exciting and hope that the coronavirus pandemic was done in the NFL. With just one person left on the list, the feeling was that once that person was cleared, the NFL would be good to go.

They would have successfully eradicated it from the league and everything would be smooth sailing from there.

Instead, we are fewer than two weeks away from the start of the regular season, and the numbers are spiking for the first time in a very long time.

As mentioned, 10 is still a very low number. So hopefully they can continue the virus and keep it from spreading any further. If that is the case, the regular season could go back to seeing absolutely no bumps.

Right now though, that seems like it is a hard scenario to envision. The issue with positive cases here is that everyone is around a large group of people (their team). So now you have 10 more people that you need to hope gave it to no one else.

The odds of that don't seem great. But the NFL has done a great job for the most part in containing COVID-19. So there is still hope they can do it again.

The bigger thing here is simply hoping that everyone is okay and makes a speedy and safe recovery.
