Today is the day Colin Kaepernick finally gets a shot with his private workout in Atlanta. If he manages to perform well enough, there's no question that a team will swoop him up and make his return after a 32-month exile implemented by the NFL.
However, there are plenty of dubious details surrounding the workout that it wouldn't be weird to think that the league is indirectly sabotaging his audition for the first time in three years. It's been a problematic issue that the former San Francisco 49er is bringing his own wide receivers to the workout.
According to PFT's Mike Florio, the NFL has withheld almost every information about the tryout to the quarterback. They didn't share which teams and representatives will be coming to the tryout. In fact, they even withheld the identities of the wideouts who will be catching balls for him. Without an idea of how his wide receivers will perform, he opted to bring his own team to the field.
Article Continues BelowEverything about the tryout seems suspicious to the critical-thinking football fan. One can feel the rushed nature of the tryout given the way it's been set up so far. The secrecy of the entire affair is enough to make anyone nervous and think that Roger Goodell's move is nothing more than a stunt to save face.
Of course, many hope that the deal will end with Kap getting that much-deserved contract. There are plenty of teams that need capable QBs after all. Kaepernick can only hope that the league is not actively trying to sabotage his return.
