The NFL is suspending its annual spring meeting later this March, per NFL Network's Tom Pelissero, as the outbreak and spread of the coronavirus has swept the sports world, canceling games and events and suspending other leagues' operations.

The NFL released a statement on the suspension of its league meeting, with Commissioner Roger Goodell adding after the consultation with medical experts, teams were told the NFL would cancel the spring meeting and postpone votes and considerations of “football issues.”

The coronavirus (COVID-19), a worldwide pandemic now, has impacted nearly every sport, with the NCAA seeing conference tournaments canceled, men's basketball teams dropping out of March Madness consideration, the NHL, NBA, and MLS suspending operation in the interim, and NFL teams pulling out of college pro days and traveling for scouts and coaches.

The spokesperson for the NFL in the same statement added, “This decision was made consistent with the league's primary concern to protect the health of club and league employees and the public while enabling the league to continue with its essential business operations.”

The NFL's spring meeting cancelation comes on the heels of what is supposed to be the draft in April, which could conceivably be moved back as well. While the NFL does not have any games ongoing like the NBA, NHL, and NCAA, operations such as scouting, the league meetings, and events like the draft and the Pro Hall of Fame “Fan Fest” were supposed to go on in the new few months, seemingly all closing due to the public health scare.
