The 2022 NFL Scouting Combine took an unexpected twist when it was announced that 150 players planned to boycott the event due to its “bubble-type” restrictions. On Monday, the NFL announced a major NFL Combine update following the boycotts, as reported by Tom Pelissero.

In a shocking update, the 2022 NFL Combine informed players of a policy change at the event. The players will now be allowed outside of restricted areas.
In a message to the players obtained by Pelissero, the NFL informed the prospects that mask-wearing is “recommended but not required.” Meanwhile, players who would like to leave the site of the 2022 NFL Combine are encouraged not to but can do so “at their own risks.”
Article Continues BelowClearly, the NFL didn't want to face the consequences of a bevy of players simply not showing up to the Combine. That's the biggest reason for this update, which walks back the safety restrictions put in place by the league.
Of course, the league did widely contain the spread of the virus this year following several mini outbreaks in the 2020 season. They do deserve some credit for that.
However, one has to wonder if it's wise to lift such safety restrictions given the size of the 2022 Combine event.
