About half of the NFL's team social media accounts have been hacked, and the NFL is working with law enforcement to clear up the issue. In a statement released on Tuesday morning, the league said they have taken steps to secure all team's social media accounts, and are exploring all legal options to make sure it doesn't continue.

“​On Monday, the NFL Cybersecurity department became aware of a breach of a league-related social media account,” the league’s statement said. “Targeted breaches and additional failed attempts were discovered across the league and team accounts. The NFL took immediate action and directed the teams to secure their social media accounts and prevent further unauthorized access. Simultaneously, the league alerted the social media platform providers and, with their assistance, secured all league and club accounts. We continue to work diligently with the teams, which have resumed normal operations. The NFL and teams are cooperating with its social media platform providers and law enforcement.”

The hacker group OurMine has taken responsibility for the attacks, and this isn't the first time they have compromised social media accounts.

According to an article published in Business Insider in 2016, OurMine is a three-man hacking account that has gotten into the accounts of Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg, Deadmau5, David Guetta, Channing Tatum, YouTubers Pewdiepie and Markiplier, and former Twitter CEOs Dick Costolo and Ev Williams among others. OurMine has done these hacks as they try to promote their own services where they scan your website or account for security vulnerabilities.

Hopefully the NFL can get a handle on this and it won't be a problem moving forward.
