In 2019, the Washington Redskins drafted Ohio State quarterback Dwayne Haskins with the 15th overall pick with the hopes that the Buckeye star could be the franchise's savior at QB.

A year later, rumors began to pile up that Washington could move on from Haskins as they had the opportunity to draft Alabama star QB Tua Tagovailoa at with the No. 2 overall pick.

That didn't happen as the Redskins ended up picking Haskins' college teammate Chase Young with their first-round pick and Tagovailoa would be selected fifth overall by the Miami Dolphins.

Even with Young being the most commonly accepted pick for the Redskins before the draft, rumors of Tagovailoa being a future Redskin were certainly there.

However, in an interview with the Redskins Talk podcast, Haskins' credited new Redskins head coach Ron Rivera with putting his mind at ease:

“Throughout the whole process, Ron was just telling me to trust him. I did so it worked out,” Haskins said regarding the pre-draft rumors.

Haskins wasn't the permanent starter for the Redksins last year as the rookie appeared in nine games making seven starts. While not overly impressive, Haskins did show flashes in his first year in completing 58.6 percent of his passes for 1,365 yards, seven touchdowns and seven interceptions while also leading Washington to two of only three wins last season.

Still, while Tagovailoa may not be a Redskin, Haskins will still have to battle with Kyle Allen (Rivera's old backup with the Carolina Panthers) and veteran QB Alex Smith, who has seemingly been focused on making a return to the field after a devastating 2018 injury.
