Brent Sobleski of Bleacher Report put out list of the most intriguing project player for each team in the NFL. For the Washington Redskins, it was cornerback Jimmy Moreland who took the top spot.
This one shouldn't come as much of a surprise. The 2019 seventh-round draft pick has a lot of potential in the secondary.
Moreland is extremely talented at finding the ball and has great hands. He's strong in coverage and other than his size (5-foot-10, 179 pounds) doesn't have many major weaknesses.
Due to that, Moreland should carve out somewhat of a role decently quick. That will give him time to play. With that, the project is underway.
Moreland has already impressed the coaching staff, but has a solid group in front of him. Josh Norman is the leader of the cornerbacks, with Quinton Dunbar as his number two. Fabian Moreau looked strong at slot last year and Adonis Alexander and Greg Stroman flashed potential. Dominque Rodgers-Cromartie is a great veteran name in there as well.
Moreland could sneak in a role on sets with more DB's though – especially with the thought that he could try some sets at safety.
This speaks volumes to how strong of a prospect Moreland is. The Washington Redskins have a ton of young talent – and a lot of players that could be seen as “project” type pieces. Moreland gets the nod though, and it's hard to argue with the logic.
The thing with Jimmy Moreland though, is that he might not be considered a “project” player for long. Don't be surprised if he moves from “project” to a prominent role in no time.
