The Washington Redskins fired head coach Jay Gruden on the Monday after their Week 5 loss to the New England Patriots.
That's a start, but it's only the beginning if you ask Lavar Arrington. The former star linebacker believes the “root of the issue” is owner Dan Snyder.
Former Redskins LB @LavarArrington breaks down the real problem with the team
"The root of the issue is ownership… You had to address him as Mr. Snyder, even as an adult, and if you weren’t of a certain level or stature you were told not to look at the owner." pic.twitter.com/wdhcXKnvsK

Honestly, if you're a fan of the Redskins you probably already felt this way. Even non-Washington fans will likely tell you this. The numbers definitely back it up (.429 winning percentage in Snyder's 21 years).
However, it's important to hear it from people who have been in the situation.
Arrington played the first six years of his career in Washington, making the Pro Bowl three times. He has been around the culture for long enough to understand how things were working.
Article Continues BelowIn the interview, Arrington speaks up on a lot of problems. He talks about things such as not being able to look at Snyder and how everyone had to address him as “Mr. Snyder.”
He then went on to talk about hiring “ownership” players and “mercenary” players. Players that have ownership care about the team and the city. Meanwhile, mercenary players are just there for a short while and are meant to be quick fixes.
Arrington seems to believe that as long as Snyder is there, “mercenary” players will be far too common in Washington. That's not a recipe for success.
The Redskins are 0-5 this year. Expecting a crazy playoff run is simply out of the question. However, they can start to turn things around with a new direction at head coach.
Can they overcome the front office though? The ownership? According to Arrington, that's the real issue. If Washington doesn't fix that, they might not be winners for a long time.
